General Horticulture - fall 2010

Presence and participation will be recorded for each lecture . You can be excused for no more than 2 lectures but these must be made up by (a) rewriting notes from another student and (b) writing me an outline for the respective chapter in the book. The makeup must be checked by me within one week of your absence. If you cannot attend the class on this basis, you are advised to drop now! Attendence is really important and is an essential part of the learning process. You cannot pass without good attendance!

Please see the grading page for other grade details and requirements.

You are not allowed to leave early from lecture without permission (do not sneak out!!!). If you need to leave the class before the end of the lecture, let me know in advance. If you need to leave the classroom temporarily get my attention before you leave! I will fail you if you sneak out so do not bother coming back.

Quizzes and the final exam cannot be made up. No exceptions. Do not ask for a makeup! Make sure you print your name on the quizzes and the ScanTron grading sheets. If you do not have you name on the ScanTron and the quiz/exam you will not get a grade for that test or quiz. Always bring a pencil for the ScanTron. I will not hand grade ScanTrons in ink. Bring a pencil

Papers and reports must be in on time or deductions of 10 points per day will be assessed.

All the assignment must be completed and turned in to on time pass the course! No exceptions.

You are required to be prepared for class by reading the assignments before lecture. Your participation will be considered before I settle on a final grade for you in this class!

Please note that quizzes are always cumulative from the very first lecture. We will not have a text per se this semester. We will use web and other materials. Some materials may need to be purchased and everyone must do so.

Make certain that your phones, and other noise-making gadgetry are turned off. Ten (10) points will be deducted from your grade total if the equipment in question goes off during lecture! I mean it!!!

If you cannot be present for class, have questions, or need to contact me, try email first. Make sure you use the email codes. I am usually good about replying relatively promptly. As a last resort, try my personal office at 908-852-4855. Spell your name for anyone who answers and be perfectly clear about the nature of the call. Make sure you tell him or her what class you are in.

I want you in class, prepared, set to learn, and to enjoy the course. If you put in the effort, you will have a nice time in this course. If not, it will be a very bad experience.

I will be available at various times on most Tuesdays and Thursdays but seeing me will always be by appointment. I don't want you waiting around if I am not there. Email me for appointments well in advance. I will confirm by return email. DrCrow@verizon.net is my email address. You can click on the link to send me email but you must use the class subject code GHf10! Use upper case for the G and the H or the email won't come through.
